Yesterday, my Mum turned 89 and our family gave her a hand-sewn booklet that contains her longest poem. It's called The Migrant.
Her granddaughter, Pepa Dear painted this image of the Crow for the front cover.
This poem tells the story of a Migrant who is carried by hopping kangaroos, through the night sky, from England to Australia. There she meets all sorts of curious animals and humans, including Crow. After all sorts of adventures and frights, the Migrant overcomes her fears and decides to stay in Australia.
The final verse of The Migrant offers a moral tale:
Down Under’s full of beauty rare.
Take time to look, take time to stare.
Relax, step out along that track.
T’will take you on or take you back.
