Essays bridge between my creative and academic writing. They are where I try out creative writing conventions and question academic narratives based on experience. My first creative writing essay, ‘The place of doubt’, reviewed Helen Garner's This House of Grief. It probed places where language and authority created borderlands of doubt and certainty in everyday life. It pushed me towards questions about times and how stories are shaping our futures.
