WORDS & WONDERS

ABOUT ME

Terri Seddon is a writer, researcher and educator exploring how places, peoples and storytelling tie us into (un)sustainable futures. What began with science teaching, then an academic career in global sociologies and politics of education, has become writing experiments to confront the climate emergency.

She experiments with fiction, creative nonfiction and academic writing conventions to re-read our times. Approaching Anthropocene through  Australia, she re-imagines looking, learning and connecting with the living Earth as stories that remake histories everyday.

PORTFOLIO OF WORK

Past. Present. Future.

This portfolio is a collection of my latest words and wonders, where writing experiments reveal possibilities for sustainable worlds.

These stories suggest how songlines and science collide. Each piece captures how I experience, feel and learn from events, places, conversations and things I've read. They are unique in style and content, and particular to certain moments in space and time.

I hope you enjoy this story-telling and do contact me if you have questions about my journey.

CREATIVE WRITING

To date, my creative non-fiction has focused on book analysis and storycraft. But some of these commentaries also feed into my major project, a novel about a baby, a grandmother and the climate emergency –– it's a work-in-progress, or maybe just a dream ....

POETRY

I discovered the joy of writing poems in 2019 after a lifetime working in the natural and social sciences.

Poetry brings words out of my body rather than my clogged up brain. It helps me feel the rhythms of life and surface the rhymes that entangle my mind, body and environments.

ACADEMIC WRITING

I have written academic texts since the 1980s when I began asking questions about education, societies and how  learning unfolds through nation-states.

This line of inquiry shows the power of words and how places are lived through contexts –– our wordy worlds.

"Walking... is a state in which the mind, the body, and the world are aligned, as though they were three characters finally in conversation together, three notes suddenly making a chord."

THIS WEBSITE

I acknowledge the Woi wurrung people and the Yalukit-willam people, original custodians of the Boon wurrung country where I live, work and dream, but where sovereignty was never ceded.

I pay my respects to their Elders past and present; a guest in conversation with this amazing country, seeking stories about today that contribute to a more sustainable and respectful tomorrow.
